Taiwan Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Exhibition (SEMICON Taiwan) , China 2024 was held from September 4 to September 6 in the Nangang Exhibition Hall of Taipei Trade Center. The number of exhibitors reached 1100, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world.

SEMICON Taiwan is one of the largest semiconductor equipment and materials exhibitions in Asia, hosted by the Semiconductor Industry Association of Taiwan, which has attracted semiconductor equipment and materials manufacturers, designers, distributors and buyers from all over the world to participate in and visit the exhibition..

At the invitation of customers, CHEMFISH went to Taiwan to participate in this exhibition. As a supplier of cooling, cleaning fluorine solutions, etching, packaging, electronic specialty gases, and other products in the semiconductor industry, CHEMFISH products deeply meet customer needs in relevant aspects. At the exhibition site, Ms. Ye, the general manager of CHEMFISH, had in-depth exchanges with customers about the industry chain, the development of semiconductor and the future market, thus obtained more information and was recommended by customers to meet more semiconductor industry professionals.

There are two important topics at this exhibition, one is the solution of silicon photonics for AI computing, and the other is semiconductor packaging.

Due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), the demand for computation is increasing, the density of chips is becoming stronger, and the manufacturing process is moving towards higher and higher directions. The requirements for energy consumption and speed have been in conflict with the physical limits of the current metal materials, which makes the only solution for AI currently lies in silicon photonics. The concept of silicon photonics has been introduced for many years, but the related technology has also remained at the stage of research and development and small-scale production. Therefore, the current development of AI brings pressure on silicon photonics as well as a huge business opportunity, making all hardware technology will be forced to break through at hyper speed.

In the future, silicon photonics has the opportunity to solve many of the physical limits that semiconductors currently face. By then, different thinking and system architectures can be used to redesign, which can further increase the business opportunities of current semiconductors by an order of magnitude. Therefore, AI will become the main driving force for semiconductor innovation.

Another topic, as an important part of semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging technology is regarded as the direction of technological development in the coming years. The International Forum on Advanced Packaging at this semiconductor exhibition covers the main technologies of semiconductor advanced packaging that are of global concern, including chiplets, 3D ICs, CoWoS, and panel level fan out packaging (FOPLP) and so on. The organizer stated that they have gathered over 40 CoWoS related manufacturers and over 40 panel level packaging manufacturers' supply chains, covering equipment, materials, components, and related processes and so on.

At the Advanced Packaging International Forum, SEMI said that led by TSMC and Sun Micron Semiconductor, the first 3D IC/CoWoS-driven AI chip innovation forum was held to discuss packaging heterogeneous integration technology and continued deepening of semiconductor development.

At the exhibition site, around all links of semiconductor production, the products of suppliers from around the world constitute a complete semiconductor ecological chain. Its exhibitors are mainly from Taiwan and many world-famous enterprises, such as: TSMC, Nvidia, Foxconn, MediaTek and some exhibitors from Japan, South Korea, Europe and the United States.

After the exhibition,  CHEMFISH set off for Taoyuan, Tainan, Kaohsiung and other places to visit the world's first solid-state battery mass production manufacturer, the globally renowned digital fashion technology leader, the world's leading liquid crystal supplier and other Taiwan enterprises, many of which have production and R & D bases in mainland China, and some of these customers have met for the first time in many years of cooperation.
